The 78th Meeting of the IFIP 10.4 Working Group on Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance was supposed to take place in Valencia, Spain, in June 2020. A technical workshop on the security of systems based on artificial-intelligence was planned.

The plans for the workshop and the meeting itself were derailed due to the COVID-19 situation. After weighting the various tradeoffs, the members decided that holding a workshop online was not feasible given that it was not possible to find a slot that would be convenient to all members who are distributed across the globe.  Also, the close interactions and discussions that typically take place during the physical meetings were difficult to replicate on line.

Therefore, it was decided to hold a short, 2-hour meeting on Thursday June 25th that included only a business meeting. This meeting took place online and was attended by 55 members, a very large number that included many participants who have not been very active recently. This meeting indicated to us that there is potential for on-line meetings for the WG gatherings in the future, in addition to traditional meetings.

The business meeting received an update on the dependable self-propelled vehicles, and discussed the new members to be inducted. It also included the customary discussions about preparing future meetings for the working group and for the DSN flagship conference, although COVID threw a lot of uncertainties in the mix.
